4th of July 2013

We had a great 4th of July. This year we started of the festivities with a bike ride parade.  Some friends of ours host it every year and the girls loved it.  They got to decorate their bikes with streamers and ribbon and flags, and then ride them around the neighborhood.
staying hydrated!

Getting warmed up.

And they're off!

Lilly crossing the finish line.

After the parade Jocelyn, the hostess, played "The Star Spangled Banner" on her trumpet and we said the pledge of allegiance.

After the parade all of the girls took a nap and Sam and I got some work done. After the girls nap time we put the sprinkler on for them to play in.  I tried this a few weeks ago and it wasn't hot enough for the girls to want to play in it for very long....but this time it was a huge hit, and they played in it for probably an hour!

At first only Grace would get in.

But then Lilly decided she would try in drive-in style

Grace came to check it out.

And it looked like so much fun Grace wanted a turn, but she needed to get Lilly out.
So she convinced Lilly that spraying your bum in the sprinkler is a lot of fun too!
 Lilly gave it a shot.
 and Grace got the car.

 dorks.

Pearl (who is not a dork...yet) had a good day too. I held her while I walked in the parade and then she took a few naps and watched her sisters play outside for a little while.

so cute!

And because we are true Americans, Sam made us ribs for dinner.  They were delicious. This is only his second time smoking ribs, but he is  already a pro!

Sam, Pearl, and I finished the day by watching Independence Day on our projector in our basement...which reminds me I need to do a post all about our basement, it is awesome!

We had a great day with friends and as a family.

Happy 4th!

What a fun way to spend the fourth. I love the idea of a bike parade.
